BURNABY

ON HORSEBACK THROUGH ASIA MINOR

BURNABY, Fred Captain

London, 1877

2 volumes with portrait and maps

This renown British Army officer’s tale of adventure from Scutari (Üsküdar) to Erzerum, with the object of observing the Russian frontier.

Burnaby joined the Royal Horse Guards in 1859, but, when not assigned to active duty, he crafted his own adventures. He ballooned across the English Channel, and traveled in Spain, Asia Minor and Russia. He was wounded, and eventually killed, fighting for the British Empire. “These volumes contain an account of a journey on horseback through Asia Minor…” over five months, and over a distance of 2000 miles.
