The general situation of the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century…
There is another edition made by J.F. Bassompierre in 1757. Another edition, dated 1759, is entitled État actuel de l’Empire Ottoman. This work is based on the text of Alcide de St. Maure’s book La Cour Ottomane ou l’interpète de la Porte, published in 1673. Joseph La Porte (1714-1779) was a French literary critic, poet and playwright.
A prolific writer, Father La Porte has written numerous books and compilations. After achieving success with his first book review called “Travel Shadows”, he made observations and studies on modern literature. In the 1st chapter of this work, the religion and religious principles of the Turks, holiday celebrations, sects
within Islam, marriage ceremonies, clergy, mosques, judicial system headed by the qadi, and calendar structure are explained.
In chapter 2, the military organization is described, in chapter 3 the Divan-ı Hümayun, and in chapter 4, the position of the sultan and his retinue in the state administration
is described.

1757 yılında J.F. Bassompierre tarafından yapılmış bir baskısı daha vardır. 1759 tarihli başka bir baskısı ise État actuel de l’Empire Ottoman başlığını taşır. Bu eser Alcide de St. Maure’nin 1673’de basılan La Cour Ottomane ou l’interpète de la Porte başlıklı kitabın metine dayanır. Joseph La Porte (1714-1779) Fransız edebiyat eleştirmeni, şair ve oyun yazarıdır.
Üretken bir yazar olan Peder La Porte, çok sayıda kitap ve derleme yazmıştır. İlk yazdığı eser “Travel Shadows” adındaki kitap eleştirisi ile başarıyı yakaladıktan sonra modern edebiyat üzerine gözlemler yapıp çalışmalarda bulunmuştur. Yazarın bu eserin 1. bölümde Türklerin dini ve dini akideleri, bayram kutlamaları, Müslümanlık içerisinde
yer alan mezhepler, evlilik törenleri, din adamları, camileri, kadı başkanlığındaki yargı sistemi, takvim yapısı anlatılır.
2. bölümde askeri örgütlenme, 3. bölümde Divan-ı Hümayun, 4. bölümde de padişahın ve maiyetinin devlet yönetimi
içerisindeki pozisyonu anlatılmaktadır.
