Beautiful collection of 14/15 volumes in-8 from the Lyon edition of 1800 of the famous Natural History dictionary of Valmont de Bomare (1731-1807), very interesting for the knowledge of the knowledge of the time with regard to the medicinal uses and cooking recipes. Volume 1 is missing, i.e. the words starting with the letter “A”.
Decorative set, well-made bindings in full flamed and glazed calfskin of the period, beautiful lace framing on the covers, smooth spines decorated with two pieces and rich decoration with small gilded irons.
Solid bindings, rubbed leather, 6 leveled caps, departures from small slots in the jaw without gravity, blunted corners.
Interiors in good condition with scattered foxing, and rare traces of small marginal moisture.
Published for the first time in 1761 in 5 volumes in-8 (the second in 1768 in 6
volumes in-8 and the third from 1775 in 9 volumes in-8), this new edition is established “according to the fourth review and considerably increased by the author”.
Naturalist and pharmacist Valmont de Bomare (1731-1807) directed the physics and natural history office of the Prince de Condé in Chantilly.
His dictionary was very successful and was reprinted, expanded and annotated several times by the author and was translated into almost all languages.
