\nmanzaralar a\u011f\u0131rl\u0131ktad\u0131r. Sultan II. Mahmud d\u00f6nemi (1808-1839) Istanbul’unu
\ntemsil eden bu g\u00f6rsel \u015f\u00f6len, Kral IV. William ile Kralice Adelaide’e ithaf
\nedilmistir.<\/p>\n
Born in London in 1805 as the son of engraver Frederick Christian Lewis,John
\nFrederick Lewis began his career as an artist like his family and spent most of
\nhis time drawing animal paintings and illustrations during the early years of his
\ncareer. The trip he took with his father focusing on art in 1829 ended up leading
\nhim to different paths in his life. His passion for travel first took him to Paris to
\nspend the winter of 1827, then to Florence,Naples and finally to Rome where he
\nstayed for two years (1833-1840). The Levant trip which included places like
\nAlbania,Gulf of Corinth,Athens and even Istanbul in 1841, ended in Cairo,
\nEgypt where he spent 10 years of his life.During his stay in Cairo, he drew so
\nmany sketches that after returning to his country, he continued to paint based on
\nthose sketches for the next 25 at his home on the outskirts of London. Lewis’s
\nworks also show that the East,which could only be imagined, had been
\nreplaced by a real geography that can be seen and experienced.In Lewis’s
\nalbum of scenes from Istanbul named \u201cIllustrations of Constantinople”,there are
\n3 images of Bursa, 3 of Orsova,and the rest are of Istanbul. Picturesque
\nlandscapes are at the forefront of these pictures. This visual feast representing
\nthe Istanbul of Sultan Mahmud II (1808-1839) was dedicated to King William
